OnePlus 2 #HYPE Reviewed
OnePlus 2(Two) #HYPE
On 27th of July the OnePlus 2 was released after the huge success of OnePlus One in the previous year. It was the first phone to hold the launch event in VR (Virtual Reality). A mobile app was created for the sole purpose of this event and OnePlus also sold the OnePlus VR cardboard for a mere ₹99 on amazon.in .
It looks like a great phone and comes in a reasonable price and here's what I think about it.
Design
Well it comes in the same size as the OPO but a dozen more things than OPO.
We'll start of with the overall look, well OnePlus does a pretty decent job in designing and in this device the have put in a metal band around the device like you see in the Galaxy S6 plus you get a toggle on it which specifies what kind of notifications you will get on your lock screen, like the first toggle shows you All the notifications the second shows only Priority notifications and the third Turns off the notifications.
The back panel of the device is same as the much appreciated sandstone finish one which was previously seen on the OnePlus One.
The camera is placed below than that of the OPO. On the front we can see the fingerprint scanner in a rectangular shaped button which is actually not a button, but it works as a capacitive key which direct you to the home screen and there are two other capacitive keys which is just a illuminated line like key which can be specified as your ease.
You can either make the left one as the Back key and the right one as the Multitask key or right one as the Back key and left one as the Multitask key.
The overall design is pretty nice and is different from OPO but a little smaller, with lots of new things.
Display
It comes with a 5.5inch Full HD 1080x1920 display,i.e, 401ppi (pixel per inch).
The display is beautiful with good viewing angles and don't worry if you drop it because it comes with the protection of Gorilla Glass 4. The colours in the display comes out to be vibrant and the black are much deeper in colour.
Camera
The 2 comes with a 13mp ( 4128x3098 ) pixel rear shooter along with dual LED flash and laser autofocus. Front facing camera, a.k.a, selfie camera is a 5mp shooter which captures some decent images.
Rear camera can also shoot videos in 4K and time lapse and also in slow motion in 720p at 120fps.
It comes with three presets HDR, Beauty mode and clear shot.
The images captured from this device are sharp and the colour reproduction is really good.
HDR mode does a pretty good job in enhancing the colours and giving the photos a more wow factor.
The main work is of the image processing algorithms and OnePlus did a pretty good job in it.
Chipset
OP2 comes with the till date best in class Snapdragon 810 64-bit processor which is a 1.8GHz octa-core CPU along with 2 options of RAM one with 4GB and the other with 3GB. Multitasking is a charm on this device and one can multitask between many apps. It does not lag and you can switch between apps really fast.
Because of the huge processor it does heat after heavy gaming but the high end games does not show any lag or frame drops.
It's battery can sustain the device for a day but needs charging after that.
The 2 sports the new USB type-C port but it does not have fast charging, this is a setback of this device.
Fingerprint scanner given on this device works perfectly and unlocks the phone really fast.
If the screen is off you can just touch hold the fingerprint scanner with your registered finger to unlock it.
Multiple actions can be assigned to the capacitive button that can be performed if you long press them.
UI
OnePlus 2 runs on the latest version of Oxygen OS which is an inhouse UI. It have all the features you can find on the Cyanogen, like, offscreen gestures, customisable keys and more.
The UI is smooth and light and can be operated easily and gives a stock Android experience. You can change the permissions given to apps, like if you don't want an app to see you contacts you can just change the settings, it's just like what we are going to see in Android M.
It is also customisable just like Cyanogen and icon packs can be applied suiting your preference.
Verdict
Well I can't say anything about whether one should buy it or not but here's the review you can decide what's best, should you buy it or not it depends on you.
For me it's a nice phone with a lot of scope to improve.
